Research laboratories are centred as a priority on the trades in the Department: particle physics, production, mechanics, and management.
The Department welcomes many researchers working in specific fields, through organisations that are open to many sectors.
|
The Department's research organisations favour industrial applications, establishing bridges between efficient laboratories and short and medium term applications. The laboratories linked to the University of Savoie, Polytech'Savoie and IUT, whose research corresponds with the specialities available in the training centres.

LAPP, Particles research
|
| |
A component of CERN/IN2P3, LAPP has since 1976 concentrated its research on experimental particle physics. It employs 900 staff. It is currently taking part in an international space research programme – the AMS project – designing and producing a specific e calorimeter. The Conseil General aids this work.

LAPTH, Annecy-le-Vieux Theoretic Physics Laboratory
|
| |
Joint Research Unit (UMR 5108) of the CNRS with the University of Savoie, on LAPP's premises. With 22 permanent members and some fifteen non-permanent members (French and foreign doctorates and post-doctorates) LAPTH is focussing its research on both phenomena and formal high-energy theoretic physics, mathematical physics, statistical physics linked to field theory as well as certain approaches to biophysical theory.

INRA National Agronomy Research Institute – Limnology Institute - Thonon-les-Bains Lake-based Hydrobiological Station
|
| |
The Lake-based Hydrobiological Station at Thonon has been responsible to INRA since 1964. In 1998, a Joint Research Unit (UMR-42) was set up by INRA and the University of Savoie which has been working on a scientific study programme on the functioning of lake-based Alpine aquatic ecosystems, interacting with the sides of the catchment area.
